  1. Determine what your horse’s work intensity level REALLY is.

  2. Aim to do aerobic work. Aerobic work burns fat e.g. active walk and trot.

  3. Always remember to warm up and cool down properly.

  4. Be innovative! Weave around trees to increase flexibility or add extra weight with saddlebags of full water bottles for a cardiovascular workout.

  5. If you are unable to ride your horse then aim for a brisk walk with him, marching as though you are about to miss a flight!
