5 Health Check
  1. Become familiar with your horse’s vital signs. Take your horse’s pulse, respiration and temperature over a few days at different times to give average rates.

  2. Listen for regular gut sounds to check for normal digestive function.

  3. Monitor feed intake, as this can be an early warning sign that something is wrong.

  4. Check the consistency and frequency of your horse’s droppings. These are very indicative of equine health.

  5. Check mucous membranes and capillary refill times. Make sure eyes and ears are bright and alert.
